Position Summary
Mills Marine & Ship Repair LLC is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Clerk to support payroll operations within our shipyard and maritime repair environment. The Payroll Clerk is responsible for processing employee payroll accurately and on schedule while supporting job-based labor tracking and compliance with applicable labor regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
•   Process weekly and/or biweekly payroll for hourly, salaried, and contract employees
•   Review, verify, and enter employee timecards, job numbers, overtime, and shift differentials
•   Track labor hours by vessel, project, or work order to support job costing and reporting
•   Maintain accurate payroll records and confidential employee information
•   Calculate wages, overtime, deductions, per diem, and applicable premiums
•   Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
•   Assist with payroll setting up for new hires and processing for terminations
•   Prepare payroll and labor reports for management, audits, and government contracts
•   Ensure compliance with federal, state, and maritime labor laws
•   Coordinate with HR, accounting, supervisors, and job clerks to validate payroll data
Required Qualifications
•   High school diploma or equivalent
•   Previous payroll, accounting, or administrative experience preferred
•   Strong attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines
•   Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll/timekeeping systems
•   Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism
•   Strong organizational and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
•   Experience in a shipyard, maritime, construction, or industrial environment
•   Familiarity with job-cost payroll, union payroll, or government contract requirements
•   Knowledge of overtime rules, shift work, and project-based labor tracking
Work Environment
•   Office-based position within a shipyard environment
•   Regular interaction with operations personnel working varied schedules
