Job DetailsJob Location: Sugar Land, TX 77478Mako Industries is hiring an organized, proactive, and detail-oriented Procurement, Purchasing & Production Scheduler to manage purchasing, material procurement, vendor expediting, and production scheduling for our fabrication shop. This position will coordinate the flow of materials, outside services, and production activities from the time a job is released through completion and shipment. The successful candidate will work closely with management, engineering, sales, production, quality, vendors, and shipping to ensure jobs have the correct materials and resources and are completed on schedule. The ideal candidate has experience in a metal fabrication or manufacturing environment, understands shop operations, can read drawings and bills of materials, and is comfortable managing multiple priorities and changing production requirements. Procurement & Purchasing Review customer orders, work orders, BOMs, drawings, and material requirements. Determine material, component, and subcontracting requirements for production jobs. Purchase steel, stainless steel, aluminum, plate, structural materials, pipe, tubing, hardware, welding supplies, consumables, and other shop materials. Obtain and compare vendor quotations for price, quality, lead time, and availability. Create and issue purchase orders and maintain accurate purchasing records. Negotiate pricing, delivery dates, and terms with suppliers when appropriate. Develop and maintain strong relationships with material and service suppliers. Identify alternate suppliers when materials or services are unavailable or delayed. Monitor inventory levels and coordinate replenishment of commonly used materials and supplies. Coordinate outside services including machining, galvanizing, painting, powder coating, plating, heat treating, laser cutting, forming, and other subcontracted work. Vendor Expediting Monitor all open purchase orders and supplier commitments. Follow up with vendors regularly to confirm order status and delivery dates. Identify potential material or vendor delays before they impact production. Expedite critical or late materials and outside services. Coordinate partial shipments when necessary to prevent production delays. Communicate changes in vendor delivery dates to production and management. Work with receiving to track expected deliveries. Resolve issues involving shortages, incorrect materials, damaged materials, quality problems, or late deliveries. Maintain accurate open-order and vendor-status reports. Production Scheduling Develop and maintain daily, weekly, and long-term production schedules. Schedule fabrication jobs based on customer due dates, material availability, labor, equipment, and shop capacity. Coordinate workflow through cutting, sawing, forming, machining, welding, fabrication, finishing, assembly, inspection, and shipping. Review job requirements before releasing work to production. Ensure required materials, drawings, specifications, and outside services are available before jobs are scheduled. Monitor job progress and update schedules as priorities change. Identify production bottlenecks and communicate potential delays. Coordinate rush and priority jobs with production supervisors. Work closely with management and shop personnel to balance workload and available capacity. Coordinate outside processing to ensure work returns in time to meet production requirements. Track estimated versus actual production time when required. Participate in production planning and scheduling meetings. Provide management with updates regarding job status, material shortages, vendor delays, and expected completion dates. Communication & Coordination Serve as a primary communication link between purchasing, vendors, production, engineering, quality, sales, and management. Communicate material and scheduling issues quickly and clearly. Maintain accurate records in the company's system. Ensure purchase orders, delivery dates, job requirements, and schedule information remain current. Help resolve conflicts between customer priorities, material availability, and shop capacity. Support continuous improvement of purchasing, inventory, and production-planning processes.  Qualifications 5+ years of experience in procurement, purchasing, production scheduling, expediting, or manufacturing coordination. Fabrication, welding, machining, or industrial manufacturing experience strongly preferred. Knowledge of steel, stainless steel, aluminum, structural steel, pipe, tubing, hardware, and fabrication materials preferred. Ability to read and understand fabrication drawings, BOMs, work orders, and material specifications. Experience working with vendors and subcontractors. Experience with ERP/MRP purchasing and production systems preferred. Strong Microsoft Excel and computer skills. Excellent organizational and follow-up skills. Strong communication and negotiation abilities. Ability to prioritize multiple jobs and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with the shop team.
