Location: This position may be based in Harrisburg, PA or Venice, FL.
Compensation Range: $151,760.60 to $189,700.75, depending on experience, plus eligibility for an annual Leadership Incentive Plan bonus.
Job Summary
The Director of Transportation is responsible for developing and executing the enterprise transportation strategy for MITER Brands, including inbound, outbound, and interplant transportation. This role provides strategic leadership for the company’s transportation network, including management of transportation providers and 3PL partners, optimization of freight and distribution costs, development and execution of inbound freight strategies, management of internal plant transfers, and initiatives that enhance customer experiences.
The Director of Transportation leads transportation sourcing and contracting strategies, including carrier negotiations, long-term transportation agreements, freight cost management, and market intelligence. This role establishes and drives transportation performance standards, identifies opportunities to improve service, cost, capacity, and network efficiency, and leads continuous improvement initiatives across the transportation network. The position also ensures appropriate transportation capacity, resiliency, compliance, and risk management to support the company’s operational growth objectives.
This position partners closely with Manufacturing, Purchasing, Distribution, Sales, Finance, and other cross-functional leaders to develop and execute transportation strategies that deliver reliable service, optimize total delivered cost, support plant performance, enhance the customer experience, and advance the company’s overall financial and strategic objectives.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Develop and execute regional transportation strategies.
Support optimization of network design, including routing, consolidation, equipment, and staffing.
Lead decisions related to private fleet, dedicated fleet, one-way fleet, and brokerage solutions.
Partner with Finance to complete equipment cash flow analysis, including lease versus ownership comparisons.
Own carrier sourcing, contracting, and performance management.
Negotiate freight rates, fuel programs, and equipment maintenance programs.
Manage, track, and report asset utilization and unit scan-off percentages.
Support the distribution budget and forecast processes.
Drive year-over-year freight productivity improvements.
Identify and execute cost-reduction opportunities through routing optimization, consolidation, and contract renegotiations.
Partner with Finance to ensure freight accuracy, visibility, and alignment.
Ensure reliable execution of inbound, interplant, and outbound transportation supporting manufacturing and customer commitments.
Lead escalation management for service disruptions, capacity shortages, and high-risk lanes.
Identify opportunities to improve the customer delivery experience.
Establish enterprise KPIs and create dashboards to track supplier and carrier performance.
Drive standardization of transportation processes, carrier scorecards, and site practices.
Improve freight visibility, shipment tracking, and transportation data quality.
Partner with IT to create analytical tools and reporting capabilities.
Support freight claims, loss prevention, and insurance coordination.
Communicate contingency plans related to weather, capacity disruptions, and peak demand.
Support site Distribution Managers without direct reporting responsibility.
Partner with Manufacturing, Purchasing, Distribution, Sales, Customer Service, and Finance to align freight strategy with operating plans.
Support S&OP and capacity planning to ensure carriers are aware of demand changes.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Strong knowledge of transportation strategy, freight operations, and supply chain management.
Ability to lead transportation sourcing, carrier negotiations, and long-term transportation agreements.
Strong analytical and financial acumen, including freight cost analysis and budgeting.
Ability to develop and implement transportation KPIs, dashboards, and performance metrics.
Strong leadership and cross-functional partnership skills.
Ability to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives across transportation networks.
Knowledge of transportation compliance, risk management, freight claims, and contingency planning.
Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
Proficiency with transportation systems, analytics tools, and reporting platforms.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or other business-related field.
MBA preferred.
Minimum of 10 years of leadership experience in a logistics or supply chain role.
Job Specific Requirements
Ability to support enterprise transportation operations across inbound, outbound, and interplant logistics.
Experience working with carriers, 3PL providers, and transportation networks.
Ability to travel as needed to support operations, distribution, and transportation initiatives.
Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional business leaders and operational teams.
