Description

JOB SUMMARY

Verifies patient information by interviewing patient, recording medical history, and confirming purpose of visit. Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, temperature, and other vitals; and reporting patient history summary.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • 聽Assisting healthcare providers
  • 聽Maintaining electronic health records (EHR) and documenting patient data in appropriatefields
  • 聽Collecting specimens for laboratory testing, administering medications andimmunizations and conducting patient intake and exit interviews
  • 聽Using data and patient registries to outreach to patients in need of preventive care andfollow-up for chronic conditions
  • 聽Assisting with patient referrals, tracking and follow-up
  • 聽As appropriate, taking patient phone calls and following up on patient requests
  • 聽Scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, checking patients in and out and assessing charges, including past due balances and collection of fees (e.g. co-payment, co-insurance, point-of-care incentive).

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge:

General knowledge of quality improvement practices.聽

Skills:

  • 聽Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • 聽Proficient with medical office technology and equipment, including computers, copiers, scanners, fax machines, and phone systems, as well as MS Excel/Word/Outlook, Electronic Health Record systems and automated medical scheduling and billing programs.
  • 聽Excellent interpersonal skills in group and community settings
  • 聽Ability to plan, schedule and coordinate
  • 聽Effective management of multiple duties and responsibilities in a clinical setting
  • 聽Sound leadership and clinical judgment

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • 聽High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED)
  • 聽Satisfactory completion of Medical Assistant Certification Program

Preferred:

  • 聽Experience working with racially and ethnically diverse populations, low-income populations and people experiencing homelessness
  • 聽At least one year of experience in a primary care or public health setting functioning at the full extent of her/his training
  • 聽Experience with Practice Management systems and EHR
  • 聽Prior work in performance or quality improvement
  • 聽Phlebotomy Skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • 聽Full range of motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye鈥揾and coordination
  • 聽Standing and walking frequently and occasionally lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • 聽Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, biohazards, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinical setting
  • 聽Some travel within western North Carolina
