Position Summary:

The Utility Man provides operational support across train operations, assisting crews, filling in for various roles, and supporting safe and efficient rail operations as needed.

This position will work the Day Shift, 10-12 hour shifts, from Thursday through Sunday each week.

Primary Tasks and Responsibilities:

Assist train crews with switching operations as needed.
Fill in for Switchman, Conductor, or other roles as qualified.
Support yard operations and customer service activities.
Assist with inspections, minor maintenance, or operational tasks.
Provide flexibility to meet operational demands.
Follow all safety rules and operating procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Normally Expected Education and/or Practical Experience:

High School Diploma or GED.
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Ability to perform physically demanding labor including walking on uneven surfaces.
Prior railroad or industrial experience preferred but not required.
Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Continual walking on uneven ballast and climbing on/off equipment.
Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions (heat, cold, rain).
Frequent exposure to loud noise and moving equipment.
Continually required to stand, walk, bend, and climb.
Frequently required to lift up to 75 lbs.
Must be able to safely work around moving rail equipment.
