Position Summary:
The position consists of specializing in the lifting and moving of extremely large or heavy objects.
Position Responsibilities:
Supervises and coordinates the activity with craft workers to ensure that work is done safely, correctly and in a timely manner
Use knowledge and understanding of the technical installation requirements for the work under his/her supervision, to include drawings, specifications, procedures, and codes
Follows direction from supervisor
Must have experience in rigging
Must be able to obtain Zachry ETS signaling certification.
Loads, transports, unloads and assists in selecting cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved
Attaches pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures, such as beams, ceilings and gin pole booms with bolts and clamps
Attaches load with grappling devices such as loops, wires, ropes and chains to crane hook
Gives direction to crane operator or hoisting engineer engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and material
Inspect and repair all components of boiler systems and associated mechanical equipment
Follow direction from Supervisor

Must have experience using industrial hand tools and power tools
Must have reliable transportation

Must have good aptitude and manual dexterity
Good reading comprehension
Ability to work with others – team player including good communication skills with co-workers and supervisors
Commitment to Zachry values and safety rules and regulations
Must have knowledge of crane signals, operating a torch, and operate a plasma cutter
Valued but not required skills, knowledge, and abilities:
Former Zachry employee
Formal education/degree/certificate in construction, technical or trade school such as NCCER Certification or NCCCO in rigging.
Reports to Position
This position will be responsible for a crew of up to 5-15 craft workers. The crew will be a mix of journeyman, helpers, and laborers.
Physical Requirements
- Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, sitting and lifting.
- Will talk and hear to communicate.
- Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull: objects, materials, controls and tools.
- May be required to pick up, lift, carry and move up to 50lbs.
- Will work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and may occasionally work off of platforms/scaffolding using the appropriate fall protection requirements.
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions (including heat, rain, cold and wind) while wearing appropriate PPE.
- Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/spoggles, ear plugs, masks/respirators, hi-vis safety vests, leather gloves and leather steel-toed work boots.
