POSITION SUMMARY:

The Purchasing Coordinator will support the construction team efforts to build quality homes across all the communities. This position will provide support with generating purchase orders, updating purchase orders as needed by the team, data entry of payroll invoices for specific material, answering emails to provide updates to the construction managers and suppliers, as well as various other purchasing duties. The primary responsibility of the Purchasing Coordinator will be to support the construction managers with the starts of houses, correcting purchase orders and supporting any of the purchasing needs for the team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Oversee and manage the purchasing process for new home starts in communities throughout the greater Houston area.
  • Generate purchase orders for new home builds and any associated selection updates.
  • Collaborate with construction managers, estimators, and other team members to anticipate material needs and adjust purchase schedules to ensure alignment with project timelines.
  • Approve and send out variance purchase orders promptly.
  • Update new home start details in the Newstar operating system.
  • Maintain accurate records of all purchase orders, invoices, and deliveries, while preparing regular reports on purchasing activities, cost savings, and inventory levels.
  • Assist with updating purchase orders and entering specific payroll invoices into the system.
  • Monitor material costs, identifying opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining quality standards.
  • Coordinate stage moves as directed by the construction managers.
  • Provide support for various ad hoc purchasing duties as needed.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • Previous experience in purchasing for a home builder is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Newstar operating system is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of purchasing and accounts payable terminology specific to home building.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly MS Outlook.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational abilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Positive attitude with a team-oriented mindset.
