General Purpose of Position

Completes City inspections relating to Public Works infrastructure construction and rehabilitation projects ensuring compliance with plans and specifications.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspects infrastructure construction
  • Inspects streets, water lines, storm and sanitary sewer installations
  • Ensure compliance with applicable city codes and approved plans
  • Ensure compliance with proper safety standards
  • Coordinates with contractors
  • Inspects on-site material testing
  • Inspects asphalt and concrete installation
  • Prepares reports and issues written orders for corrective action in construction projects
  • Determines general progress, workmanship and character or the construction and rehabilitation work
  • Inspects quantity and quality of materials for conformity with established requirements
  • Works with the public and other City departments
  • Ensure developers contain soil erosion and other debris on their respective properties
  • Assists contractors and other City staff as needed

Performs other related duties

  • Writes, edits and distributes reports and correspondence as needed
  • Maintains and keeps all inspection reports
  • Provides information to contractor and co-workers
  • Coordinate pre-construction meetings with contractors
  • Comply and maintain accurate records
  • Assist with plan review as needed
  • Assists with evaluation of public infrastructure
  • Assists with snow and ice removal operation

Performs other duties related to departmental activities

  • May be utilized as a member of Public Works Maintenance staff as needed
  • May be requested to inspect water and sewer main connections or disconnections
  • Assist with Water Main Pressure testing as needed
  • Assist with Sewer Main and Manhole vacuum testing as needed
  • Assist with Sewer Main Mandrel testing as needed
  • Attend training and other professional development as needed or required

Performs similar duties for other City departments as assigned

Education and Experience

The person in this position must have a high school diploma or its equivalent; additional vocational classes or engineering courses are encouraged. Five (5) years of related work experience is preferred, with a minimum of three (3) strongly recommended. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Licenses and Certifications

The person in this position must have the ability to obtain a Missouri CDL Class B with airbrakes, tanker endorsement. Must be able to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol test and random drug and alcohol testing. Must be able to complete confined space training, competent person training/certification. Vactor truck training, CCTV equipment training and backhoe training are recommended.
