The group you’ll be a part of

The SEM Lab in Tualatin is committed to providing best-in-class microscopy services to support Lam’s engineering and development efforts. Through technical development and continuous improvement, we solve difficult analysis problems and leverage efficiencies to increase our throughput and reduce our time to data. The SEM lab automaton development group is at the forefront of automation development in the field of electron microscopy. We strive to push the boundaries of what is possible.

The impact you’ll make

As a Process Engineer at Lam, you will operate on cutting-edge technology, harnessing atomic precision, material science, and surface engineering to push technical boundaries. The major responsibility is to develop and enhance the automation workflows used by the automation group to improve sample throughput, reliability, and quality.   

What you’ll do

  • Work with the Automation Development Group to identify workflow improvements. 
  • Work with the tool vendor to assist in the development of new workflows and improvements to current workflows. 
  • Be a resource to assist in automation production recovery. Willingness to assist with production as needed.
  • Develop Ifast automation recipes to enhance lab production. 
  • Refine AutoTEM templates to improve productivity. 
  • Coordinate with cross-campus collogues to enable consistent alignment for current and future development needs. 
  • Communicate with team members to ensure alignment on methodologies.   
  • Protect customer material and IP at all times. 

Who we’re looking for

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or Physics or related field with no previous professional experience; or equivalent experience.
  • 10 years of experience with a BS degree in a physical science.    
  • Position is standard Monday-Friday.  Schedule time is 8am-4:30pm. 

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with the automation development environments of AutoTEM and Ifast. AutoTEM Lit experience a plus. 
  • Experience with TEM automation a plus.
  • Experience operating dual beam FIB/SEM tools, especially in the preparation of thin lamella for STEM or TEM imaging.   
  • Knowledge of the physics involved with FIB/SEM tools, such as vacuum systems, voltage/current effects, and ion sputtering behavior.   
  • Familiarity with key developments and materials in the semiconductor industry is a plus.   
  • Experience creating and presenting technical documentation.   
  • Experience in customer IP protection and sample handling is a plus.

Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On-site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
