Job Title: Maintenance Assistant

Position Overview: The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for general building and property maintenance, supporting the Maintenance Department, and helping keep facilities clean, safe, and orderly. Duties may include routine maintenance, minor repairs, housekeeping, and snow or debris removal from sidewalks and outdoor areas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Follow safety policies, housekeeping rules, quality standards, and standard operating procedures.
  • Perform general facility clean-up and maintain clean, orderly work areas.
  • Inspect and maintain fire extinguishers, detectors, eyewash stations, and related safety equipment.
  • Collect and dispose of garbage and recyclables.
  • Clean light fixtures and replace light bulbs or tubes as needed.
  • Perform minor repairs on windows, doors, switches, desks, tables, plugs, appliances, sinks, toilets, blinds, and similar items.
  • Assist with clean-up and repairs within skill level.
  • Maintain working knowledge of environmental safeguards and alarm systems.
  • Maintain outside grounds, including removal of snow, ice, and debris.
  • Identify needed supplies and equipment.
  • Report faulty operations, defective materials, and unusual situations to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Prepare and paint interior and exterior surfaces as required.
  • Drive vehicles as required.
  • Work with and assist other Maintenance Department staff members.
  • Monitor and maintain cleaning solutions and related equipment.
  • Train new hires as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

  • Ability to lift up to 70 lbs. occasionally.
  • Continuous standing and frequent walking.
  • Use hands and feet to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, controls, buttons, levers, and pedals.
  • Bending, twisting, reaching, and repetitive or strenuous work.
  • Wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes, gloves, and any other required protective equipment.
  • Work indoors in non-controlled environmental conditions.
  • Work outdoors as needed.
  • Exposure to noise levels that may be distracting or uncomfortable.
  • Exposure to minor cuts, burns, contaminants, hazardous equipment, and dusty environments.
  • Work with others in a group or team environment.
  • Read SDS information to become familiar with chemicals used.
  • Work overtime as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to perform small repairs, such as caulking, replacing washers, and replacing light fixtures.
  • Basic understanding of standard hand tools and power tools.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and logging readings.
  • Ability to identify problems and recommend practical solutions.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Good analytical, math, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
