Signs & Markings Technician I

Description

This position performs technical duties in assisting in the installation, maintenance and repair of traffic control devices.

· Fabricates signs for all city departments.

· Erects guide, warning, regulatory and street signs.

· Inspects existing signs and replaces damaged or defective signs.

· Installs reflectors on roads.

· Installs or repairs pavement markings.

· Paints curbs and sign posts; stripes roadways.

· Clears brush at intersections and from around signs.

· Installs thermo stop bars, crosswalks, and lane lines.

· Installs and uninstalls traffic counters.

· Installs detour and safe work zone barricades, cones and signs.

· Performs related duties.

Requirements

· Knowledge of the Standard Highway Signs Manual.

· Knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

· Knowledge of city policies and procedures related to the manufacture, maintenance and installation of signs and pavement markings,

· Knowledge of work zone safety principles.

· Skill in the operation of hand and power tools.

· Skill in the operation and maintenance of an assigned vehicle.

· Skill in the installation and maintenance of signs and pavement markings.

· Skill in oral and written communication.

· Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.

· Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

· Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
