We are seeking an Engineering Technician II to join our growing Public Works Operations team in Vernon Hills, IL. What you can expect: This position requires participation in a variety of technical work for sewer and water treatment, collection, and distribution facilities, involving both field and office support of Public Works Operations assignments. It requires operating various types of equipment; performing related mathematical computations; completing reports; executing Standard Operating Procedures; and providing support to other Public Works Operations staff. How you will make an impact As an Engineering Technician II, you will utilize the company values in all phases of your work. You shall perform the full range of duties as assigned under general supervision in a timely fashion, and show competency in the following areas: Read, interpret, organize, and assist in the creation of technical documents and calculations associated with the position. Respond to emergency water breaks, sewer back-ups, lift station problems, hydrant leaks, and other system malfunctions. Review field and record information to be used in producing required EPA documentation and monthly reports. Responsible Operator in Charge for water distribution systems in the region. Maintain and improve current Water Operator Licensure. Ability to travel out of town during the week to meet client and project needs. Ability to work evenings and weekends. Perform non-permitted and permitted confined space entries. Read water meters and flush fire hydrants. Collect manhole data using visual and measuring devices for accurate data collection. EDUCATION: Must have a high school diploma or a High School Equivalency (HSE) Certificate. EXPERIENCE AND LICENSURE: Two (2) years of public works or field related experience. Must be capable of driving/operating a motor vehicle for company business, maintain a valid Illinois Driver’s License, and have a registered, insured personal vehicle. Class C Water Operator License required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Read, interpret, and assist in the development of technical documents and calculations associated with the position. Assist and apply discipline design criteria when obtaining field data and record information to be used in production of engineering drawings and reports. Self-starting, detail-oriented individual that demonstrates curiosity about individual project processes or project subject matter and willingness to participate in various training activities. Work in collaborative environment while completing supportive engineering tasks with limited oversight. Ability to manage personal schedule to adhere to multiple assignment deadlines while communicating progress status. Proficiency with software products: Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) PDF editing software (Adobe, Bluebeam, etc.) Assist in the development of portions of project proposals. Work is performed in both an office environment and outdoors and requires moderate physical demands, including sitting, standing, or walking on uneven surfaces and/or exposure to inclement or extreme weather conditions for prolonged periods of time.
