DRY END SUPERINTENDENT 

The Planer Superintendent will provide leadership, training, and development to supervisors & hourly personnel by managing the process flow, resources and work force to meet/exceed established budgets and performance objectives at Vicksburg Forest Products.  

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the highest standards for safety performance, leading with a personal example and a well-communicated vision. 
  • Plans workflow, controls operational costs, controls maintenance costs, prioritizes and schedules outages and repair procedures, maintains staffing levels, champions employee engagement and ensures environmental compliance.    
  • Ensure established departmental budgets and performance objectives are met/exceeded by communicating those goals, as well as progress against those goals, on a regular basis; providing necessary training; directing resources; organizing the process (i.e. scheduling); and facilitating problem solving
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills, coordinating and monitoring the quality of team members’ work and providing them with clear direction.  
  • Maintain product specifications, stressing the importance of manufacturing quality products, conducting routine quality checks, and facilitating continuous improvement.        
  • Develops and implements programs to ensure product meets standard at each job function and implements corrective action through Supervisors.
  • Analyzes quality control information provided and initiates corrective action plans as required.
  • Analyzes raw materials on a daily basis, makes adjustments as required to meet production budget levels.
  • Foster a culture of open and respectful communication.
  • Conduct employee performance reviews based on job descriptions to determine competencies and knowledge.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience of verifiable lumber or wood production manufacturing required.  
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – conflict management, coaching, supportive feedback, and problem solving. Ability to function as an effective team member. 
  • Strong mechanical and technical knowledge. Demonstrated track record of success in a complex and fast paced manufacturing environment.
  • Must be computer literate, including a strong background in MS Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Lean manufacturing/5S experience a plus.

Environmental Conditions

  • Must be able to tolerate extreme hot, humid, cold, and outdoor conditions. Comfortable working in a loud environment, around moving machinery, with vibrations and airborne particles (sawdust).
