This position serves as a technical subject matter resource within the Structures Department, providing guidance and mentorship to less experienced technicians while supporting heavy maintenance, modification, storage, preservation, and aircraft reactivation programs. Work is performed with minimal supervision in accordance with FAA regulations, Repair Station procedures, approved technical data, and Company quality and safety standards. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Perform complex aircraft structural repairs, modifications, fabrication, and restoration activities in accordance with approved technical data and established procedures. Execute major structural repairs including skin replacement, frame and stringer repairs, complex assemblies, and aircraft structural modifications. Perform advanced damage assessment and determine repair schemes using Structural Repair Manuals (SRM), Engineering Orders (EO), and approved engineering data. Interpret and apply Structural Repair Manuals (SRM), Aircraft Maintenance Manuals (AMM), Engineering Orders (EO), blueprints, IPC, engineering drawings, and technical specifications. Support heavy maintenance checks, aircraft modification programs, corrosion control programs, storage, preservation, and reactivation efforts. Perform advanced fabrication of structural components, complex layouts, and precision sheet metal work. Coordinate structural repair activities with Maintenance, Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Production Control. Inspect and verify structural work for accuracy, fit, finish, and compliance with approved technical data prior to subsequent operations. Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and on-the-job training to Aircraft Structures Technician I and II personnel. Assist in troubleshooting structural discrepancies and developing repair solutions in accordance with approved data. Support audits, customer inspections, and regulatory evaluations as required. Maintain accurate maintenance documentation in accordance with Company procedures and regulatory requirements. Ensure compliance with FAA regulations, OSHA requirements, Company policies, and quality standards. Perform other duties as assigned. QualificationsEDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS Education & Certifications High School Diploma or GED required. Aviation Maintenance Technician School (AMTS), sheet metal trade school, vocational training, military aviation training, or related technical education preferred. Experience 4 - 7 years of aircraft structures, sheet metal, fabrication, aviation maintenance, military aviation, or related technical experience preferred. Extensive experience performing structural repairs in heavy maintenance or MRO environments preferred. Experience working with SRM-based repairs, engineering drawings, and modification programs required. Prior experience mentoring or training junior technicians preferred. Qualifications Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Ability to obtain airport driving privileges. Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English. Ability to work flexible schedules, including overtime, weekends, holidays, and varying shifts. Ability to successfully complete required Company training and qualification programs. Tools Requirement Aircraft Structures Technicians III are required to provide and maintain a complete set of personal aircraft maintenance tools necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. Personal tools must be maintained in good working condition and comply with Company Tool Control, Tool Accountability, and Foreign Object Damage (FOD) Prevention requirements. Aircraft Structures Technician III are responsible for the security, maintenance, and replacement of their personal tools. Specialized tooling, calibrated equipment, test equipment, and Company- controlled tooling required for specific maintenance tasks will be provided by the Company. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge Advanced knowledge of aircraft structures, sheet metal fabrication, and structural repair techniques. Expert understanding of Structural Repair Manuals (SRM), Engineering Orders (EO), and aircraft maintenance documentation. Strong knowledge of aircraft materials, corrosion control, fasteners, sealants, and bonding processes. Working knowledge of FAA Part 145 repair station operations, quality systems, and regulatory compliance requirements. Knowledge of heavy maintenance operations, modification programs, and aircraft reactivation processes. Understanding of structural load paths, aircraft integrity principles, and damage tolerance concepts. Skills Perform complex structural repairs and major modifications with minimal supervision. Conduct advanced fabrication, layout, and precision structural assembly work. Analyze structural damage and determine repair solutions using approved technical data. Interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and repair schemes. Coordinate structural work activities across multiple maintenance disciplines. Inspect structural work for compliance, accuracy, and quality prior to release to next operations. Provide technical mentoring and training to junior technicians. Communicate effectively with Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Maintenance leadership. Abilities Work independently on complex structural repair tasks while maintaining compliance with approved data. Exercise sound technical judgment within established repair station procedures. Identify structural discrepancies and develop compliant repair solutions using approved data. Prioritize multiple assignments in a high-demand maintenance environment. All work shall be performed in accordance with the Repair Station's authorization and supervision requirements. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described below are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, fall protection equipment, and respirators as required. Sufficient visual acuity, depth perception, color recognition, and hearing (with or without correction) to safely perform aircraft maintenance tasks. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in aircraft hangars, maintenance facilities, airport ramps, and outdoor operational environments. Employees are routinely exposed to aircraft noise, moving machinery, elevated work platforms, varying weather conditions, sharp metal edges, dust, sealants, solvents, primers, paints, and chemicals commonly associated with aircraft structural maintenance activities. Compliance with all Company safety programs, FAA regulations, OSHA standards, and PPE requirements is mandatory. Overtime, shift work, weekend work, and holiday work may be required to support operational needs.
