Assistant Vice President – Space Insurance

Location: Washington, DC. (Hybrid role)

Overview

We are seeking an Assistant Vice President (Account Executive/Broker) to join our Space insurance team. This role focuses on advising clients, structuring placements, and negotiating coverage for complex space risks, including launch, in‑orbit, and third‑party liability exposures. You will work with satellite operators, manufacturers, launch providers, and financial stakeholders, partnering closely with other team members. You will also provide insurance export compliance support to our clientele.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a primary day‑to‑day contact for a portfolio of space clients, ensuring excellent service and timely delivery.
  • Lead renewal strategy and placement from data collection through to binding, documentation, and ongoing service.
  • Structure, negotiate, and place complex risks with local and international insurance/reinsurance markets.
  • Build strong relationships with underwriters and monitor market capacity, pricing, and wording trends.
  • Identify client needs and coverage gaps; recommend tailored risk transfer solutions.
  • Draft and review market submissions, policy wordings, and endorsements.
  • Support claim advocacy by helping interpret coverage and coordinate with underwriters and specialists.
  • Contribute to new business development, RFP responses, and client presentations.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business, Economics, Law or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 10+ years of insurance or reinsurance experience, ideally in specialty lines; experience in space, aviation, or other complex technical risks is a strong plus.
  • Proven experience managing complex accounts and/or placing specialty risks in London, European, or international markets.
  • Solid understanding of insurance principles, policy structures, and contract wordings.
  • Familiarity with the space sector (satellite operations, launch services, manufacturing, or related areas) highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of U.S. space export compliance regulations and experience with managing export compliance for space insurance exports to international insurance

The salary range for this position (intended for U.S. applicants) is $100,000 - $135,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant’s education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant’s geographic location.

 

This position is eligible to participate in one of Aon’s annual incentive plans to receive an annual discretionary bonus in addition to base salary. The amount of any bonus varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.
