Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) is the world’s premier association representing member companies, state biotechnology groups, academic and research institutions, and related organizations across the United States and in 30+ countries. The Director of Event Marketing is responsible for the event marketing strategy and execution of direct marketing promotions that drive paid audience acquisition for up to six events with overlapping promotional schedules. This is a hands-on position that requires the ability to prioritize competing demands, manage time effectively, write compelling copy, and design and deploy emails campaigns. The incumbent develops and executes marketing plans with limited supervision and ensures that each touchpoint across the acquisition cycle is engaging, efficient, and effective. The Director of Event Marketing must be goal- and deadline-driven to manage simultaneous campaigns, analyze campaign performance, optimize marketing efforts, and effectively lead and develop one direct report.
ESSENTIAL Responsibilities:
Develop and deliver multi-channel campaigns to increase awareness, engagement and growth for BIO events including:Â
- Tactical development of messaging, design and deployment for email campaigns, with promotions being in-market for several BIO events at one time.
- Continuous improvement of event marketing campaigns through testing email structure, timing, audience targeting, landing pages, and messaging.
- Frequently monitor registration quantity/quality and adjust marketing promotions to ensure BIO meets its attendance and revenue targets.
- Segmentation of BIO database to identify opportunities for targeted messaging.
- Analysis to measure effectiveness, performance, and ROI for executed campaigns and pivoting if necessary.
- Work with Event Marketing and Brand Experience colleagues to ensure website copy aligns with current promotions.
- Responsible use of AI tools in accordance with BIO’s AI Policy.
- Collaborate with external partners and affiliates where applicable to maximize the scope and reach of campaigns.
- Overall project, timeline, and workflow management.
- Budget management and accountability contributing to annual budget development and forecasts.
- Vendor and consultant supervision.
Oversight on email marketing platform for Event Marketing and Brand Experience team:
- Manage event integration and demographics in email platform (with IT).
- Optimize email database (with IT/outside vendor).
- Employ new HubSpot features when applicable and stay current on global email marketing trends.
- Maintain an awareness of all emails deployed by other BIO business units to prevent email fatigue.
- Meet quarterly with marketing peers across the organization to share best practices.
- Act as main marketing contact for BIO with HubSpot and email consultants.
Actively collaborate with cross-functional teams to align marketing campaign goals with event objectives:Â
- Participate in cross-discipline weekly event planning/status meetings to absorb latest event details and report on recent marketing promotion results and upcoming marketing targets and deadlines.
- Maintain a close relationship with BIO Partnering and Industry Programs teams to develop relevant and timely messaging.
- Work with Industry Partnerships team on sales campaigns and exhibitor communications.
- Collaborate with the Communications team to align social media messaging with email promotions.

Education and Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
Experience
- 5+ years in direct marketing for large, multi-faceted B2B events, preferably at a trade association.
- 2+ years of management experience including supervising and mentoring at least one direct report, overseeing their projects and managing their workload, professional development, and annual goals.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA’s)
- Strong copywriting skills.
- Hands-ontechnical capabilitywithHubspot.
- Experience withlist segmentation andtargeted messaging.
- Abilitytonimblymake marketing decisions based on data.
- Comfort in workingwith various stakeholders across the organization with professionalismwhile achieving the deadlines and goals of the Event Marketing and Brand Experience team.
- Visual and verbal presentation skills to present data clearly and effectively.
- Proficiencyin Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Excel. Working knowledge of graphics programs like Adobe Creative Suite and Adobe PDF is a strong plus.
- Critical thinking skills to assess current Standard Operating Procedures(SOPs)and increase efficiency whenever possible.
