Summary: The Grant Manager is responsible for securing, managing and stewarding grant funding that advances the Alliance for the Public’s Health and the Campaign for the Public’s Health mission and strategic priorities. This position leads efforts with grants across the lifecycle and specifically grant solicitation efforts, oversees financial and programmatic compliance for awarded grants, and manages reporting to funders. The Grant Manager works collaboratively with relevant staff to identify funding opportunities, develop competitive proposals, ensure responsible fiscal management, and maintain strong relationships with grantmaking organizations. The Manager will report to the AED, Public Affairs and Advocacy. This is a two-year grant-funded position.

Responsibility: Grant Development and Fundraising

  • Identify, research and evaluate prospective foundation, corporate and government funding opportunities aligned with APHA’s strategic priorities and programmatic initiatives.
  • Lead the development, writing and submission of grant proposals, letters of inquiry and related materials.
  • Collaborate with program, policy, finance and leadership teams to develop compelling grant narratives, budgets and supporting documentation.

Grant Management and Compliance

  • Serve as the primary internal coordinator for awarded grants, ensuring compliance with funder requirements, timelines and deliverables.
  • Develop and monitor grant workplans in collaboration with program staff to ensure project milestones and objectives are met.

Financial Oversight and Budget Management

  • Collaborate with finance staff and program leads to develop grant budgets and ensure alignment with funding guidelines and organizational priorities.
  • Track grant expenditures and revenue, ensuring funds are allocated and utilized appropriately and in accordance with funder requirements.
  • Monitor grant spending and provide regular financial updates and projections to internal stakeholders.

Reporting and Evaluation

  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate programmatic and financial reports to funders.
  • Coordinate data collection and evaluation activities to demonstrate outcomes, impact, and accountability.
  • Work with program and evaluation staff to develop performance metrics and track progress toward grant deliverables.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in public health, public administration, nonprofit management, communications, business, finance or related field. Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in grant writing, grant management, fundraising or nonprofit development. Demonstrated success in securing and managing foundation, corporate, individual donor, or government grants. Experience developing and managing grant budgets and financial reporting. Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities. Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Proficiency in grant management systems, CRM platforms and Microsoft Office applications. Experience in managing grants focusing on advocacy and lobbying and skill in managing different types of grants including managing project grant rule requirements (preferred). Knowledge of public health issues, systems and funding landscapes preferred.

Position is based in downtown DC near several metro stations. Hybrid work environment.

Hours: 35 hours a week, full-time, Monday - Friday (daytime). Number of openings: 1.
