What You'll Do

As a Mental Health Specialist, you will:

Trauma-Informed Care & Recovery Support

• Implement the principles of Trauma-Informed Care, including Safety, Trustworthiness, Choice, Collaboration, and Empowerment.
• Encourage residents to identify personal goals and overcome barriers that impact their recovery.
• Promote positive coping skills, self-advocacy, and emotional wellness.
• Foster a safe, supportive, and respectful environment.
• Collaborate with team members and residents to develop positive peer relationships and natural support systems.

Resident Support & Skill Development

• Implement and document individual goals, support plans, behavior plans, and service plans.
• Assist residents with activities of daily living including personal hygiene, housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation, mobility, safety, and community participation.
• Support residents in developing financial management and budgeting skills.
• Arrange and transport residents to medical appointments, educational programs, employment, recreational activities, family visits, and community events.
• Maintain professional communication with family members, guardians, medical providers, vocational programs, peer mentors, and other members of the treatment team.

Medical Support

• Assist residents with scheduling and attending medical, dental, psychiatric, and specialty appointments.
• Oversee medication administration, documentation, and medication refills.
• Monitor for medication changes, side effects, and medication refusals.
• Recognize and appropriately respond to minor illnesses and emergencies.
• Maintain competency in first aid and emergency procedures.

Nutritional Support

• Assist residents with meal planning and grocery shopping.
• Teach skills such as comparison shopping, budgeting, and coupon use.
• Support the preparation of nutritious meals and healthy food choices.
• Encourage adherence to physician-directed dietary requirements.
• Assist with family-style meals that encourage socialization and independent living skills.

Recreational & Community Integration

• Encourage daily participation in community activities and social opportunities.
• Arrange and accompany residents to recreational outings and community events.
• Support residents in developing leisure and social skills.
• Document recreational activities and community participation.

Documentation & Compliance

• Complete accurate and timely progress notes, communication logs, activity records, and incident reports.
• Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and agency standards.
• Provide ongoing feedback regarding resident progress and goals.
• Attend staff meetings, trainings, and required program meetings.

Site Upkeep & Safety

• Conduct and document monthly fire drills and safety checks.
• Assist with vehicle maintenance logs, mileage tracking, and cleanliness.
• Support residents in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized home environment.
• Assist with household cleaning, laundry, outdoor maintenance, and general site upkeep.
• Ensure the home remains compliant with agency standards and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

Required:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License.
• Some previous experience working directly with individuals with mental health diagnoses and disabilities.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in English communication, both verbal and written, including proper grammar and vocabulary.
• Ability to successfully complete all required training programs.
• Ability to pass Criminal Record History Clearance, FBI Clearance, Physical Examination, and Drug Screening.

Preferred:

• Experience in residential services, behavioral health, recovery-oriented care, or human services.
• Knowledge of Trauma-Informed Care and person-centered practices.
• Experience supporting individuals with mental health diagnoses.

Schedule

• Full-Time
• Flexible scheduling based on program needs
• Evening, weekend, holiday, and overnight hours may be required

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and assist individuals as needed.
• Ability to transport and accompany residents in the community.
• Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
