Summary:
Reporting to the Supervisor of HVAC Mechanical Services, the Plumber performs a variety of duties associated with plumbing, including repair, maintenance, inspection, and installation of systems.

Job Description:
Performs all necessary plumbing duties; inspects plumbing systems, repairs and replaces sinks, commodes, urinals, drinking fountains and water heaters; repairs steam and water leaks; unclogs drains and downspouts; replaces flush valves, faucet washers; and traps installs equipment and related water and steam lines as required. Â
Utilizes appropriate plumbing and shop tools such as pipe threaders, power snakes, and welding equipment.
Maintains plumbing parts inventory; and reorders and restocks when necessary.Â
Performs miscellaneous functions including, but not limited to, responding to emergency calls and assisting other maintenance employees.    Â
Assists HVAC Mechanics when required as it relates to plumbing duties.
Repipes plumbing systems according to D.C. codes.
Conducts preventive maintenance inspections according to established schedules; suggests changes and improvements and assists in the development and revision of same.
Assists or aids outside contractors, as required with knowledge of campus facilities, operations and utilities.
Orders supplies and equipment for each job.
Utilizes a variety of test equipment including volt meter, meggers, ohm meters, capacitor testor and other standard test and maintenance equipment.
Maintains daily records of work performed and materials used. Â
Responds to emergency calls.
Observes all safety procedures.
Assists with other trade and building/grounds maintenance tasks as requested to facilitate the effective delivery of facilities and maintenance services.
Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisors.
Demonstrates a genuine commitment to belonging in the workplace and participates in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning.
Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements on an annual basis.
Prioritizes workplace safety as a collective responsibility for employee well-being and fosters a culture of safety integral to our success, including strict adherence to safety procedures and protocols and the prompt reporting of any safety hazards or incidents.
Performs related and other duties as needed.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED.  Â
A minimum of three years of experience with plumbing maintenance, HVAC, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to communicate in American Sign Language.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong ability to effectively communicate with team members.
Strong ability to perform assignments carefully, promptly, knowledgeably, and accurately with a great deal of independence.
Strong knowledge of equipment, materials and tools of the trade. Â
Strong knowledge of all applicable codes, standards and regulations.Â
Strong skills in estimating time and material requirements for work projects.Â
Demonstrated ability to work with and across University departments, outside constituents and groups.
Additional Job Details:
The successful candidate must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. Â
The successful candidate must possess a valid driver’s license. Â
The incumbent must be able to be reached for emergency call-in work.
