About the Position
The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington is seeking a Part-Time Group Leader to support the daily operations of its before- and after-school program at Seaton Elementary School, serving children in PreK-3, PreK-4, and Kindergarten.
The Group Leader works with the Senior Group Leader to implement engaging, age-appropriate activities, maintain a safe and positive environment, and build strong relationships with children, families, and school staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the daily operation of the before- and after-school program.
- Help plan and implement age-appropriate activities and lesson plans.
- Establish classroom routines, expectations, and positive behavior guidelines.
- Supervise children and maintain a safe, supportive, and engaging environment.
- Follow emergency and safety procedures as needed.
- Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and school staff.
- Participate in parent/child events as required.
- Maintain a clean, organized classroom and ensure supplies and equipment are available.
- Work collaboratively with the Senior Group Leader and program staff.
Schedule
Monday–Friday | 3:00 PM–6:00 PM
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must obtain a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential within 18 months of employment.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification required.
- Physical examination and TB skin test documentation required.
- Must successfully complete applicable background and fingerprinting requirements.
- Must meet state and local childcare licensing requirements.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with children, families, and school staff.
- Positive, creative, patient, and dependable approach to working with children.
Working Conditions
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Ability to participate in games, sports, and physical activities with children.
- Ability to lift at least 35 pounds.
- Ability to actively supervise and monitor children.
