Potential roles will be part of an Akoya communications team reporting to a contract manager. This role is ideal for a communications professional with exceptional writing skills who is comfortable working alongside government leaders in a fast-paced environment in Washington, DC.

What You'll Do

Junior Writer Duties

  • Assist in collecting, organizing, and drafting information required to prepare web content, fact sheets, and responses to public inquiries, reports, studies, presentations, briefing memos, and summaries of conference, exhibit and workshop activities and similar internal and external publications on behalf of client.
  • Write and/or edit functional descriptions, web pages, news releases, guidance, special reports, technical publications, technology descriptions, materials supporting technology transfer, or any other customer deliverables and documents.
  • Edit complex technical language into plain language writing.
  • Identify and target appropriate content to key audiences.
  • Lead in providing high-quality writing and editing of web content, fact sheets, responses to public inquires, reports, studies, presentations, briefing memos, and summaries of conference, exhibit and workshop activities and similar internal and external publications on behalf of client.

Senior Writer Duties

  • Oversee a team in collecting, organizing, and providing high-quality writing and editing of web content, fact sheets, responses to public inquires, reports, studies, presentations, briefing memos, and summaries of conference, exhibit and workshop activities and similar internal and external publications on behalf of client.
  • Lead in writing, editing and approving functional descriptions, web pages, news releases, guidance, special reports, technical publications, technology descriptions, materials supporting technology transfer, or any other customer deliverables and documents.
  • Edit complex technical language into plain language writing.
  • Identify and target appropriate content to key audiences.
  • Support major technical or non-technical publication development across several parties and/or content structure for websites and print and online publications.
  • Possess specialized skills in design and layout of publication for print, presentations, websites and other media.
  • Regularly meet with client management to discern needs and successfully develop products, which are often quick-turn around and require a limited number of revisions.
  • Design, write, edit and approve high-level speeches, presentations for individuals in leadership positions, testimony, press releases, or written technical or non-technical reports largely independently.
  • Serve as a senior-level content editor for reports, web articles, press releases.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and program offices to gather information and ensure messaging is accurate, timely, and strategically aligned.

Duties may vary based on required education and experience level required for the role.

Requirements

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and at least 5 years of experience. Alternatively, must have a Master’s degree in a relevant field and 3 years of experience.
  • U.S. citizenship is required with verbal and written fluency in English
  • Must be able to receive and maintain a federal security clearance (public trust level)
  • Must be based in Washington, D.C. This onsite role will report to the federal client location daily.
  • Familiarity with responsible AI principles and practices.

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior federal contracting experience is preferred. 
  • Experience in the energy sector preferred.
