Role, Function & Organization

The Fabricator plays a key role in the production of metal components, assemblies, and structural systems. This position is responsible for interpreting fabrication drawings, blueprints, and work instructions; selecting and preparing appropriate materials; and using welding and metalworking tools and equipment to produce quality products to specification.

The Fabricator is expected to work safely, efficiently, and accurately while maintaining a high standard of workmanship. This role also supports material handling, inventory organization, finished-product preparation, and continuous improvement within the manufacturing operation.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

Fabrication & Welding

  • Fabricate metal components and assemblies according to drawings, blueprints, models, and work instructions.
  • Perform welding using applicable processes, including MIG, TIG, Stick, or Flux-Core as required.
  • Measure, mark, cut, grind, bend, drill, and shape metal materials using hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment.
  • Fit, align, and assemble structural and mechanical components to specified dimensions and tolerances.
  • Set up and safely operate welding machines, saws, grinders, presses, brakes, and other fabrication equipment.
  • Inspect welds, dimensions, and completed assemblies to ensure products meet quality requirements.
  • Identify and troubleshoot fabrication, fit-up, or welding issues and communicate problems to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Make necessary adjustments or corrective actions to ensure work meets specifications.
  • Follow established production processes and work instructions to maintain consistent quality and productivity.

Material Handling & Organization

  • Safely handle incoming and outgoing materials, including loading, unloading, staging, and organizing materials.
  • Verify materials and components against work orders, drawings, or other documentation.
  • Maintain proper organization, labeling, and identification of materials and completed assemblies.
  • Support inventory accuracy by communicating material shortages, damaged materials, or discrepancies.
  • Prepare, package, and stage completed products for delivery or installation.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Safety, Hazard Recognition & Elimination

  • Pre-plan work and identify opportunities to eliminate or control hazards before beginning each task.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and required PPE standards.
  • Actively identify unsafe conditions or behaviors and address or report them appropriately.
  • Safely operate tools, equipment, and machinery in accordance with established procedures.
  • Promote open communication regarding safety concerns, PPE needs, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Complete all required safety training and certifications.
  • Support the company's goal of zero workplace accidents and injuries.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Take ownership of the quality of work performed and ensure products are fabricated correctly the first time.
  • Follow quality control procedures and promptly communicate quality issues or nonconforming work.
  • Work collaboratively with supervisors and other team members to resolve production and quality issues.
  • Identify opportunities to improve fabrication methods, workflow, safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Participate in training and cross-training to develop additional fabrication and manufacturing skills.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 1+ year of fabrication, welding, manufacturing, or related experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, measurements, and work instructions.
  • Basic understanding of welding and metal fabrication processes.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment.
  • Ability to accurately measure and work with dimensions and tolerances.
  • Welding certifications, such as AWS or equivalent, are a plus.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
  • Ability to safely lift, move, and handle materials as required by the position.
  • Willingness to learn new equipment, processes, and fabrication techniques.
