As a Clinical Speech Pathologist Fellow, you will provide clinical services to patients, maintain equipment and materials, and assist with Section activities under the supervision of a Senior Clinical Speech Pathologist.

A caregiver in this role works day shifts from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. or 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., with occasional weekend and holiday requirements.

Caregivers in this position must be able to travel to both Weston and Coral Springs, with mileage reimbursement provided when traveling to more than one site in a single day.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Perform diagnostic speech pathology test procedures and evaluate communication and swallowing function of patients under the supervision of a Senior Clinical Speech Pathologist.

  • Interpret and report test results to facilitate medical diagnosis.

  • Provide counseling and education about communication and the diagnosis to patients and their families.

  • Determine therapeutic plan, including need for therapy, frequency of treatment, focus for intervention, prognosis and duration of therapy.

  • Select assistive speech devices to improve patient's communication, perform re-evaluation to determine progress after therapy under the supervision of a Senior Clinical Speech Pathologist.

  • Provide observations about hearing and other behavior to help determine need for other services.

  • Maintain records of all services.

  • Communicate results and recommendations for improving communicative function to referral sources and outside agencies such schools and employers.

  • Maintain speech pathology equipment and materials.

  • Assist with planning, budget, service or project development, fee setting, purchase of new equipment or materials.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Master's in Speech Language Pathology

  • Must hold or be eligible for a Speech-Language Pathology Conditional License (COND.SP) from the State Board of Speech Language Pathology & Audiology

  • Must hold Conditional License in current state upon start date

  • Meet all academic and practicum guidelines established by the American Speech Language Hearing Association, for Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP)

 
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Experience with use of instrumentation to assess voice and swallowing

  • Knowledge about different voice techniques

  • Experience or interest in laryngectomy care

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
