FLSA: Non-Exempt, Hourly

Job Summary: The Snow Removal Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all large equipment and daily maintenance. The Snow Removal Heavy Equipment Operator is based out of the Facility Maintenance Shop (Woodshop) and the Lower Bone Yard Sand Sheds.


Job Relationships: 

  • Reports to: Roads/Heavy Equipment Manager & Public Works Superintendent 


Job Specifications:

  • High School graduate or GED equivalent. 
  • Minimum of two years of equipment operating and daily maintenance experience in backhoes, excavators, sand tucks, skid steers, snowplows and front-end loaders.
  • Job requires working weekends and holidays with shifts that typcially start at 2am and work through 9am. On call and overtime during peak demand times.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle a variety of tasks and challenging situations, in a calm and professional manner.
  • Must thoroughly understand mechanical and electrical functions of machinery, equipment and hydraulics and perform basic maintenance and repairs as needed. 
  • Subject to WSI’s Alcohol and Controlled Substance Abuse Policy based on the nature of the position and related duties.
  • Must adhere to and promote the safety policies and procedures relating to the operation of heavy equipment and daily maintenance duties. 


Specific Duties: 

  • Operates loaders, skid steers, snowplows, and snow blowers.
  • Duties will include snow plowing and snow removal from WMR upper and lower Village areas including pedestrian walkways and all resort parking lots and some resort area roadways. 
  • Performs daily maintenance including fluid level checks and greasing as necessary. 
  • Notifies direct manager of routine maintenance and repair needs for all vehicles and equipment and follows guidelines for vehicle and equipment maintenance and repairs in coordination with the Vehicle Maintenance Department. 
  • Wears personal protective equipment and safety equipment as required by safety policies and procedures. Operates fire suppression equipment as required. 
  • Always maintains a clean & orderly work environment, i.e. cleans equipment daily.



Work Environment:

  • This is primarily outdoor work conducted in varying weather conditions, some being extreme in nature. 
  • Moderate physical activity required by handling objects up to 30 pounds frequently, 50 pounds routinely and 80 pounds occasionally. 
  • Bending, sitting and standing will be required for durations of several hours at a time.
  • Non-smoking environment.



Safety & Wellness:

All team members must be on constant alert for any unsafe conditions and work behaviors. This will involve, but not be limited to, periodic inspections of work and public areas. Follow up notification will be done to correct the condition or practice at the earliest possible opportunity
