Position Overview
Erie and Niagara is seeking a full-time Underwriter Assistant for our Personal Lines Department. This is a great opportunity to join an established WNY company with opportunities for advancement. This position is responsible for assisting in underwriting activities within the scope of authority for Personal Insurance. Primary job function typically requires exercising independent judgment within scope of authority and departmental guidelines.

Responsibilities:
- Builds rapport with Agency Personnel offering friendly, courteous, and professional customer service
- Assists in underwriting activities within the scope of authority
- Reviews, approves, processes or refers policy endorsements requests
- Reviews, approves, processes or refers policy cancellation or reinstatement requests
- Reviews all necessary information for policy renewals to determine acceptability for continued coverage
- Gathers information on new business/quotes to be utilized in the underwriting decision process and forward to Underwriters on a timely basis
- Prepares and processes policy quotations as directed by Underwriters or within the scope of assigned authority
- Researches information to be utilized in the underwriting decision process; Gathers information on risks
- Sends memos for information and pending timely response
- Performs other related duties as assigned by Underwriting Management
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree preferred
- Two years of demonstrated customer service experience is preferred
- Ability to use sound judgment and make decisions within established underwriting guidelines
- Proficient computer skills in a Windows based environment
- Demonstrated analytical, communication, and customer service skills
- Must work well both independently and in a team environment
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities daily
- Willingness to pursue INS designation
- Demonstrates knowledge of, or the ability to learn, insurance industry terminology and laws as it pertains to assigned area
Pay range for this position is $44,300-$54,080 annually depending on experience and qualifications of the selected candidate. The expected salary range for this position is displayed in accordance with the New York State Pay Transparency Law.
