Position Purpose:

Under the clinical and administrative supervision of the Nurse Manager, the Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Supervisor is responsible for providing day-to-day administrative oversight of CNA staff and supporting appropriate staffing and coverage for all shifts at the facility. The CNA Supervisor will assist with coordinating CNA assignments and may provide direction, guidance, and training to CNA staff in accordance with established policies, procedures, and the scope of their role.

As part of the MLK Interim Housing Program team, the CNA Supervisor may provide direct support to clients with activities of daily living (ADLs), as appropriate and within the CNA’s scope of practice. Such support may include assistance with eating, dressing, bathing, mobility, and navigating the facility or community. The CNA Supervisor may also assist with routine health-status monitoring and report observations or concerns to the appropriate clinical staff in accordance with established protocols. The CNA Supervisor works collaboratively with the Nurse Manager, CNA staff, and other members of the client care team to support safe, respectful, and client-centered services. The program operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; the CNA Supervisor’s assigned schedule and responsibilities will be determined based on program needs and organizational staffing requirements.


Principal Responsibilities:


1. Performs job functions as prescribed by established policies and procedures within defined scope of education, training and responsibilities

  • Provides principal liaison with the MLK RCC onsite team during the shift.
  • Provides administrative supervision for all Lead Certified Nurse Assistants and Certified Nurse Assistants to address questions or assist as needed.
  • Planning, managing, and optimizing Certified Nurse Assistant workflow and schedules to ensure proper coverage required for all shifts and efficiency.
  • Manage Staffing Shortages. Respond immediately to certified nurse assistants call-outs, find replacement coverage, and adjust schedules on short notice.
  • Participates in after-hours on-call responsibilities, as assigned, to provide guidance and assist with problem-solving related to staffing and workflow concerns.
  • Ensures appropriate health status monitoring by Lead Certified Nurse Assistants and Certified Nurse Assistants.
  • Observes and documents client response to care.
  • Reports and records observations of client conditions.
  • Assists the medical team and certified nurse assistants in obtaining vital signs and weights and documenting. 
  • Assists with bed pans, urinals, commodes, and empty urine collection bags.
  • Supports client mobility by helping clients changing positions, transferring safely, and ambulating.
  • Assists with client navigation within the facility for meals, rehabilitative and recreational activities, laundry, and to arranged transportation for community appointments.
  • Assists with meals as needed.
  • Assists clients with hygiene and grooming activities.
  • Assists clients with laundry activities
  • Collaborates with the client care team to ensure client health and safety.
  • Assists in promoting client safety and environmental cleanliness/safety.
  • Delegates selected tasks to certified nurse assistants consistent with the certified nurse assistants job description and the policies and procedures of JWCH. 
  • Conduct shift briefings and ensure proper handover between shifts.
  • Applies principles of aseptic technique and infection control per policy and procedures. 
  • Consistently uses and reinforces proper body mechanics and appropriate personal protection equipment. 
  • Monitor medical supplies and support inventory management to maintain a clean and efficient clinical workspace. Demonstrates correct and safe technique in the use of and cleaning of equipment according to specific manufacturers’ instructions and policy and procedure manual. Assists in the maintenance, care and handling of medical equipment.
  • Orders medical supplies as needed.
  • Conduct thorough new hire orientations for nursing staff, encompassing skills assessments.
  • Assess the work performance of certified nurse assistants and identifying areas that need improvement.

 2.  Documents pertinent client information, following established policy and procedures

  •  Documents accurately in the electronic health record or other methods as directed, 
  •  regarding observations of client response to care or physical conditions.
  •  Maintains clear and comprehensive documentation, including name and title, date, title, and  time
  • Adheres to all agency requirements for logging/documenting/reporting client medical and behavioral status, including incident reports. 


3. Maintains confidentiality at all times.

  •  Shares client information only with appropriate personnel when relevant to care.
  •  Safeguards documents containing client identifiers.
  • Observes and respects confidentiality of information in regards to fellow employees.
4. Responsibility and accountability for adherence to organizational and department standards and policy.
  • Observes department guidelines concerning absences and reports absences to Certified Nurse Assistant Supervisor in accordance with departmental procedures,
  • Identifies potentially unsafe systems/processes/situations and takes initiative to report to the Nurse Manager, Program Director, or designee. 
  • Adhere to and enforcement of all safety and security protocols as needed, including knowledge of emergency preparedness plans. Support facility compliance with Wesley Health Centers, JWCH Institute, Inc., safety standards, clinical documentation requirements, and regulatory agency requirements, including, but not limited to Los Angeles County Department of Health Services.
  • Adheres to department guidelines for breaks and personal business. 
  • Upholds a positive and professional image and adheres to organizational dress code.


5. Participates in organizational programs/committees as assigned
  • Participates in assigned staff and operational meetings, as well as training sessions. 
  • Engages in safety programs, potentially serving on an emergency response team.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as required or assigned.

  • Maintain awareness of infection control, occupational health, and emergency preparedness procedures appropriate to the role.
  • Participate in JWCH’s customer service training called AIDET on an annual basis.
    • Demonstrate an understanding of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You) to apply in client encounters or team discussions.
    • Utilize the AIDET communication framework to communicate with clients and team members in a manner that reduces client anxiety, increases client compliance, and improves clinical outcomes.

Requirements:

  1. Minimum High School diploma or equivalency.
  2. Licensed as Certified Nurses Assistant (CNA) in accordance with the laws of the State of California. 
  3. Minimum five years’ experience in a health care setting, including training and support for other staff.
  4. Current BLS Certificate from the American Heart Association or Red Cross. 
  5. Must possess a caring and compassionate demeanor.
  6. Proficiency in working with diverse socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds among clients, and staff.
  7. Strong communication skills (written & verbal).
  8. Bilingual English/Spanish a preferred.
