JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Orthopedic Clinic Manager, you are responsible for obtaining the required information, admitting patients, and making appointments for patients in an efficient manner, in accordance with established policies and procedures directed by your supervisor.

JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
Responsible to: Orthopedic Clinic Manager
            Positions Directly Supervised: None
            Regular Contact with: All clinic personnel, Physicians, and the public.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Answers, screens, and forwards in-coming calls.
  2. Records messages and forwards to proper person. Provides basic and accurate information in-person and via phone/email.
  3. Schedules appointments for all physicians, return/follow-up visits, and consults/referrals.
  4. Completes community care referral forms.
  5. Assists in scanning of lab, x-rays, etc.
  6. Enters patient information into computer. Keeps established patient’s information current in computer system.
  7. Collects patient co-pays, deductible, etc.
  8. Maintains patient’s records.
  9. Be able to properly use and maintain all equipment in work area.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.

Work Experience:
Desired, but not required. 2 years of clerical experience preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to read and write effectively
  • Ability to multitask and manage time effectively when completing several tasks at once
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and company information
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Familiar with medical terminology
  • Proficient with computers and ability to learn computer software

Physical Requirements: 
  • Prolonged periods of remaining in a stationary position at a desk and working on a computer
  • Frequent use of hands, wrists, and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, telephone, and other office equipment
  • Occasionally move about the office and facility campus to access file cabinets, office machinery, other departments, etc.
  • Frequently position self, such as bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, or twisting, maintaining files, retrieving files or office supplies, etc. 
  • Ability to communicate information accurately so others will understand
  • Ability to hear and respond to telephone calls, alarms, and normal office conversations
  • Visual acuity sufficient to read printed documents, computer screens, and handwritten materials
  • Frequently move, lift, push, or pull boxes, equipment, files, etc. weighing up to 20 pounds across the office for various needs.
