Theme Shop Director
We welcome you to apply for the open position of Theme Shop Director. In this role, you will lead a team of artist/craftsmen creating custom themed projects for Kalahari Resorts.  The Theme Shop Director will oversee ongoing projects by managing a production schedule, ensuring all projects are completed according to specifications, and ensuring safety standards are always met.  Some travel is required.

Essential Functions

  • Lead the in-house Theme Shop team supporting signage, theming, fabrication, and creative needs across five resort properties and a golf course.
  • Oversee theme shop production from concept through installation, including estimates, schedules, materials, purchasing, fabrication, and vendor coordination.
  • Manage and mentor a team of up to 25 artists, craftsmen, and fabricators while leading product development meetings and day-to-day project priorities.
  • Guide the design, creation, and installation of themed environments, signage, large-scale sculptures, installation art, and custom pieces for parks, restaurants, lobbies, convention spaces, and other venues.
  • Collaborate with ownership, internal departments, subcontractors, vendors, and tradespeople to bring creative ideas, renovations, remodels, and new projects to life.
  • Promote a safe, reliable, and efficient shop environment by following company policies, ensuring PPE and safety compliance, troubleshooting recurring issues, managing supplies, and supporting equipment maintenance.

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to read, understand, and follow technical instructions.
  • Hands-on knowledge of fabrication processes, commercial or construction fabrication techniques, and basic math.
  • Creative, detail-oriented problem solver who enjoys thinking outside the box and continuously learning.
  • Team-focused and dependable, with the ability to work independently while communicating and collaborating with production team members.
  • Committed to a safe work environment, including following OSHA regulations and consistently using required PPE such as face shields and gloves; OSHA 30-Hour training is preferred.
