The Teacher – Site Coordinator’s responsibilities include the development and implementation of curriculum to meet the philosophies and goals of Head Start. They should be able to communicate well with children, their parents, center staff, and consultants. Provide pre-school educational opportunities. Under the direction of the Education Manager, the Teacher - Site Coordinator is responsible for the daily operations of a Head Start site within Bennington County Head Start.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
SITE COORDINATION
Submits articles for monthly newsletter for distribution to parents. Works in conjunction with the health program to ensure adequate full day food service. Complete attendance on a daily basis. Maintains a safe and positive environment for all families and staff. Orders office supplies as needed. Ensures positive communication with public school. Enhances oversight of facilities and licensing in the absence of program management. Support and maintain a team approach within the center.
EDUCATION
Develops and implements appropriate curriculum, using classroom data, consistent with guidelines provided in the Head Start Performance Standards ensuring that all of the Head Start content areas are integrated into the curriculum. Required to complete home visits and family conferences to ensure that each family has adequate information about their child's Head Start experience. Complete required observations and assessments and required screenings both behavioral and developmental. Create and maintain an atmosphere in which children and their parents feel welcome, valued, comfortable, and secure. Uses positive reinforcement guidance to help children develop positive self-esteem and the ability to become self-disciplined. Attends Individualized Education Plan meetings as required. Encourages parents to participate in their child's educational activities.
SUPERVISION OF CLASSROOMÂ
Classroom supervision of teacher assistant, student teachers, interns, or volunteers. Includes teacher assistant, volunteers, and interns in curriculum planning. Ensures that children are supervised at all times. Track and have in-kind completed by service providers and ensure that all background checks are completed for service providers.
WORK WITH STAFF/CONSULTANTS/SPECIALISTS
Works closely with Program and Content Area Managers to ensure effective and coordinated delivery of services to families. Attends staff meeting and utilizes staff development opportunities. Collaborate with consultants and Specialists in an on-going manner to ensure delivery of services geared to the individual needs of each child enrolled. To meet changing need of families, it may be necessary to schedule meetings after hours.Â
RECORD KEEPING
Maintains complete records for each child enrolled as required by federal and state regulations. Maintains accurate attendance records. Keeps a record of every contact with parents and other agencies regarding each child enrolled. Ensures BFIS credential account is up to date.
HOUSEKEEPING
Ensure the safety of children at all times by maintaining a safe physical environment. Adhere to all regulations regarding physical safety, evacuation procedures, fire drills, etc. Ensures the site is well maintained and submits work orders as required. Communicate any facility concerns to the Facilities Division and Director in a timely manner.
FAMILIES
Encourages families to be involved with the program in an on-going manner. Act as a liaison and advocate for families and their needs. Helps to coordinate all family events with FSW staff. Ensures the program is welcoming to families and communicates any concerns directly to the FSW or supervisor directly. To meet changing needs of families, it may be necessary to schedule meetings or family events after hours.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
Works closely with or as the site Health and Safety Officer and provides back up for drills and other requirements as needed. Assists in completing monthly health and safety drills and record keeping. Oversees safety checks, daily playground maintenance and building inspections. CACFP trained in meal counts and documentation.

EDUCATIONAL /EXPERIENCE/CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:Â
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field with experience teaching pre- school children.Â
- Vermont AOE Teacher License preferred.Â
- Computer Skills Required: Typing and navigating Microsoft Windows literacy Email usageÂ
- Ability to work independently. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.Â
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.Â
