Licensed Practical Nurse - Endoscopy and Surgery

SURGERY/ENDOSCOPY LPN MAIN FUNCTION:

Scrubs and assists the RN and other health care team members during surgical and endoscopic procedures. Assists in the care, preparation and maintenance of sterile and non-sterile equipment and supplies.

MUST HAVE REQUIREMENTS:

• Active license in the State of Ohio

• Maintain a current AHA (American Heart Association) Healthcare Provider BLS card 

Must be able to respond to the hospital within 30 MINUTES

or be willing to stay on site while on call.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Department Director, Clinical Manager, Charge Nurses

Operations

  1. Verifiescorrectsponge, tape, needle, and instrument according to procedure.
  1. Assists the RN in receiving the patient in operating room or procedure room, checks patient identity and chart to assure all necessary information has been completed.
  1. Assists RN in assessing patient's physical and emotional needs according to the patient'sageand development.
  1. Assembles necessary supplies and equipment andascertainsall are in working order.
  1. Assistsin properly positioningpatienton operatingtableand preparing the operative site.
  1. Using sterile technique, properly dons sterile gown and gloves, and technique sets up table with

instruments and supplies according to procedure.

  1. Gowns and gloves members of the surgical team according to procedure.
  1. Assiststhe surgeon and/or assistant during the operative procedure,anticipatingthe needs of the surgeon.
  1. Cleans and checks scopes and instruments according to procedures.
  1. Assistphysician with Endoscopy procedures and Surgical cases.
  1. Recognizes safety hazards and initiatesappropriate correctiveaction.
  1. Applies knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and ability to translate it into patient care.

GENERAL LPN MAIN FUNCTION:

Provides nursing care to patients in an efficient, competent, and caring manner. Works under the

direction of an RN and within the Nurse Practice Act to provide care via the applicable portions of the

Nursing Process. Communicates effectively with patients, support person(s) and other members of

the health care team. Acts in compliance with the hospital and nursing policies and procedures.

Follows WCH Nursing Philosophy and practice model which are derived from the Synergy model and

appropriate Service Standards as outlined in Employee Handbook.

Operations

  1. Maintains appropriate clinical skills:
  1. Administers care according to WCH/unit policy/procedure current standards of care and OhioNurse Practice Act:
  1. Underdirectionof RN, performs data collection and documentation relevant topatient'scondition,needsand age, per nursing documentation guidelines.
  1. Communicates changes inpatient condition toRNintimelymanner.
  1. Reviews plan of care developed by RN.
  1. Under direction of the RN, providesage-appropriatehealth teaching related to diagnosis,patient/family need, and medication using available teachingresources.
  1. Work habits are consistently adjusted to accommodate multiple responsibilities and areprioritized and completedin a timely manner.
  1. Effectivelyutilizestime management and organizationalskills.
  1. Other duties as assigned bymanagementteam.
  1. Administers medication safely:
  1. Correctlydemonstratesuseof electronic MAR to document medicationadministration.
  1. Demonstrates knowledge of drug purpose andeffectiveness asrelated todiagnosis.
  1. Follows 6 rights of medication administration (6th is right documentation)
  1. Demonstrates appropriate/safe medicationhandling.
  1. Reassesses and documents effectiveness ofmedication.
  1. Participates, in conjunction with the RN,in huddles andpatient rounds to:
  1. Evaluate the environment toassuresafety & infection control standardsmet.
  1. Evaluate the care provided according to standards andevidence-basedpractice.
  1. Evaluate the educational plan and its implementation,assessing forgaps incare.
  1. Evaluate forany additional /alternative care needs, and patient/familysatisfaction.
  1. Evaluate adherence to documentation ofcare:
  1. Coordinate work to achieve maximum productivity. Able to multitask and prioritize workload.
  1. Demonstrate reasonable and rational judgment in decisionmaking.

 




Monday to Friday with weekday, weekend, and holiday call rotation
40 hours a week plus call
